Microphone Stereo Bar to mount 2 microphones on 1 stand.
Width 200mm. 2 x 3/8" mic clip mounts with 5/8" adaptors (clips not supplied , sold separtely )
Why use a stereo mic bar? A stereo mic bar is used to accurately and consistently position two microphones in a stereo recording setup, allowing for wider and more natural-sounding recordings that mimic how our ears perceive sound. It facilitates various stereo miking techniques, such as
XY, (in XY miking, two identical, coincident (very close together) microphones are positioned at a 90-degree angle to each other, with their capsules aligned. This technique creates a narrow, tight stereo image that is excellent for mono compatibility)
Blumlein, (The Blumlein method uses the two mic elements angled at 90 degrees and mounted in close proximity to each other along the vertical axis. With the Blumlein technique, a sense of realism is created. It's as if the listener is there in the acoustic sound field.)
ORTF, (In ORTF (Office de Radiodiffusion Télévision Française) stereo microphone placement, two cardioid microphones are positioned 17 cm apart and angled 110 degrees apart. This setup is designed to emulate the placement of human ears and capture a more natural stereo image, particularly for wide sound sources like orchestras. )
1. Precise Positioning: Stereo mic bars allow for the precise placement of microphones, ensuring consistent and repeatable stereo images.
2. Enhanced Stereo Width: By using two microphones, a stereo mic bar captures sound from slightly different angles, creating a wider and more immersive stereo image.
3. Mimicking Natural Sound Perception: Stereo miking techniques, especially when using a stereo bar, aim to capture sound as our ears would perceive it, enhancing the naturalness and realism of recordings.
4. Flexibility and Versatility: Stereo mic bars allow for the use of different stereo miking techniques, such as X-Y, Blumlein, and ORTF, each offering a unique stereo image and sound characteristics.
5. Accuracy and Reliability: Stereo mic bars are designed for precise and accurate spacing, ensuring that the microphones are positioned correctly for optimal stereo imaging.
6. Phase Issues Mitigation: While stereo bars can create a wide stereo image, they also require careful consideration to avoid phase issues when summing to mono, which is achieved through proper microphone orientation and spacing.
7. Versatile Applications: Stereo mic bars are used in various recording situations, including drum overheads, choir recordings, and other scenarios where capturing a wide stereo image is desired.
