The four volumes of this series are designed to meet the needs of candidates preparing for Associated Board examinations and to provide support materials for brass teachers. Each volume prints all the scales and arpeggios for Grades 1-8 for that instrument (in the case of horn) or group of instruments (all other volumes) and an accompanying table sets out clearly the requirements by grade. Recommended speeds are also printed and helpful notes given on the various forms of articulation required.

A key feature of the series is the assistance it gives in laying the foundations of a secure technique. Each volume contains a comprehensive fingering chart for the instrument or group of instruments, which includes the more usual and acceptable alternatives. In addition, highly experienced teachers and specialists have contributed notes on good fingering and on other aspects of technique, and the manual gives brief hints alongside certain of the scales and arpeggios to reinforce important points.
